I guess my last piece of advice would be to keep reading the posts on here to stay focused and on track. Setting and achieving small targets will keep you feeling positive about the whole process. Set small achievable targets, such as aiming to read 1 chapter of a book on a study night, aiming to read x amount of pages, or aiming to watch 30 minutes of online video content. Is setting yourself 2 hours per evening Monday to Thursday realistic for you? Where you tell yourself “no matter what, from 6pm - 8pm tonight I’m going to read my text book”? I find studying Monday to Thursday allows me to enjoy my weekend without feeling guilty about not studying, and when Monday night rolls around I’m looking forward to hitting the books again.

In the past I’ve told myself I’ll study when I have free time, but something else always becomes more important, or if I had a tiring day I’d put studying off until the day after. 2 months is just an example here, if you think 4-6 months then that’s totally fine.ĭefine your study days & times. How long will it take to read the text book? If 1 month then maybe allow yourself 2 months of study, the first month to read the book and the second month to watch professor messer videos, take practise exams, make flash cards etc. Set a realistic target on when you think you will be ready to take your exam. I don’t know you or know your personal circumstances obviously, but if I could offer some humble advice that I myself would want to hear it would be as follows : I don't know where my career will go from here but just wanted to share my news in the hope that someone somewhere will take confidence from this because believe me if I can pass these exams anyone can! I have 10+ years in IT, mainly in desktop support but with experience in Linux (I passed the Linux+ back in 2013). With hindsight I'd take the Network+ first then Security+ afterwards.ĬompTIA Server+ Study Guide: Exam SK0-004 by Troy McMillan
